Should I Have A Seperate Cell Phone For My Real Estate Career?

5 February 28th, 2010

Right now, I use only a cell phone (no house phone), should I get a seperate one for my real estate business or should the one I use day to day be enough?

As a Realtor I say no. You do need to make sure your plan has enough minutes on it to cover your business needs, but having a second cell phone (which I did for a while) means too many things in your pocket when you are trying to live your life, show houses, going on appointments, etc.
Ask other Realtors which company has the best cell coverage area for your market – you want to make sure that no matter where you are showing a home you can make an emergency call.
You can write off all or part of your cell phone bill depending on the percentage of business vs personal calls you make. Keep track just like you do your mileage, in a log, until you have become well-established and your cell automatically morphs into more of a business appendage than personal.
Talk to other Realtors in your office about safety when showing – one of the most important pieces of safety you have is your cell phone, in your hand, while showing property.
Good luck with your new career! I think it’s tons of fun, and hope you do, too!

use the one u got .
    u don’t need extra expenses,
since most newbies don’t make real money 1st five years especially in this market challenges.

Don’t know about your personal needs, but if you get one specifically for your business, it’s a tax write-off.
    Good luck!

Use the one you have, but make sure your greeting and how you answer the phone is professional. You can still write it off. It has now become your business phone.
